As I’m writing this, Thanksgiving is a week away and everything is starting to get chaotic as the holidays ramp up. It’s hard for me to believe the end of the year is almost here, but I know these last weeks will fly by.
I want to start this blog by saying that I did some fun work this year and I thought I would give you a glimpse of it. I also accomplished some business goals and have big goals for 2025.
What I Did in 2024
Most of the clients I worked with in 2024 were new to me, so that was cool. Some of the work I did included:
- Ghostwrite
- Social media and blog writing
- Website writing and editing
- Social media scheduling
- Whitepaper writing
I always tell people this, but I’ve been very fortunate to like every client I’ve worked with, and that was still the case this year. That is not an easy feat in this business and I’m glad I have found the right people along the way. The work has never been boring, which makes it even better.
I finally got myself an email for my business, which was sorely needed for years. The transition was tricky at first, but I’m glad I did it. Eventually, I want to send out an email newsletter for my business and thought about doing it in 2025, but I think that might be another year or two away. We’ll see.
I’ve been posting on my blog consistently every month since June 2023, so I reached my goal of doing it for a year over the summer. It has been good for me, but I have to admit it has felt a bit draining the last half of the year. After a great start to 2024, my business took a hit during the summer and recovery has been slow. I know I’m one of many freelancers and job seekers having a hard time navigating this market and if you’re in it, you know how tough it is. I want you to know I’m rooting for you to find the right fit.
The client search solidarity has helped, but my energy to write these posts needs a boost. I don’t know what exactly that entails, but my hunch is that I need to reduce the frequency that I post, or vary what I post. I don’t tend to share these candid moments and maybe I need to more? I don’t know.
Much of this year and last year has been focused on changing how I market myself and it’s been the best thing I’ve done for my business, so I highly doubt I’ll stop doing it entirely. I love seeing the progress I’ve made on LinkedIn, my website, and Google My Business, and I’m having fun with it, as I should.
Business Goals in 2025
I am a person that believes that putting yourself out there is the best way to fulfill the goals you have, so I want to use this moment to share my goals for 2025.
Find a Client Who Needs a Part-Time Marketing Manager (5-10 hrs./wk.)
I was a part-time marketing manager for a client for over four years and I loved it. I managed their social media, email marketing, website content, and blogs. Plus, I wrote case studies, tip sheets, and whitepapers. I want a client like this again because I got to grow with the business for years and make a positive impact on their biggest marketing efforts. If this is exactly what you’re looking for, I implore you to contact me.
Ghostwrite on LinkedIn
I’ve done this off an on over the years, and it’s a challenge to write for another person on LinkedIn, but I love it. It’s neat to see posts do well, especially if people I know and respect like them, and I want to do more of it. Business leaders have no idea how beneficial and important it is to post on LinkedIn consistently and share their knowledge and expertise. I would love to be the person that completely reignites their business by doing this because I know it works.
Get Back Into Email Marketing
Most people know me for my early background in social media, but I have done a lot of email marketing work over the years. I think it’s fun creating the email, writing succinctly, and figuring out the best ways to optimize it for the right audiences. Unfortunately, I have not had any luck getting back into it and I’d like that to change next year.
Work Outside of The House
I have worked from home since late 2018 and I have been debating an office outside the house for a few years. I like the convenience of being at home and having my office here, so I think the best solution is working outside of the house a little. A coworking space, my local library, or a local coffee shop are my top preferences, but we’ll see. The ideal scenario is getting a local client that I visit once a week or twice/month.
Meet up With People in my Network
I have been terrible about meeting up with people in my professional network for years. Yes, having a kid and COVID happening at the same time did not help, but that needs to change in 2025. If you’re reading this and thinking you haven’t seen me in years and want to catch up, bug me.
Hopeful For 2025
I won’t lie that the first version of this blog was not cheery at all and I had no idea what to write, but I love what it became. It’s neat for my network to get a perspective and understanding of what I do, especially since it’s changed since the start of my career.
As a part-time content marketing freelancer, there is only so much I can do to find the right clients, but I am hopeful that the business climate will change in 2025. I know that someone is looking for someone just like me to help their organization, and I can’t wait to find them.
Have a great holiday season, and please find time to sit and do nothing. All of us deserve it.
